Fridge magnets and crows, please.

I’m giving advance notice of the next two Showcases here at the zen space. As always I am hoping for new names amongst our contributors; nevertheless if you have contributed in the past and think you can come up with something, I will not turn it away without good consideration. So please, pass along the news about what I’m looking for to others in your circle.

For some considerable time now, I have followed the blogs of Robin Malherbe, who describes himself variously as ‘a cantankerous old mule’ and ‘a peripatetic shutterbug’. I have tracked him and his photography through South Africa, Canada, Madagascar, and Nepal, to mention just a few places. Somewhere in the blogs there was a series of photos he took of creative messages made from fridge magnets. These were made by some South African boys between the ages of 11 and 15 – offspring of a couple who run the church Robin is involved with – and consist of developing messages to and about Robin. This is how they started, with the simple…

and this is one of the many developments…

I love the tattiness and the variety in the magnet-letters and words – that says as much to me as the actual verbal message.

The Autumn 2015 Showcase will feature a limited number of Fridge Magnet Haiga, including more by those South African boys. What I want from you, is haiku, haiga, and other impressions and expressions in words and images, created from magnetic items placed on refrigerators. Let me see what you can do!

For the Winter 2016 Showcase I shall be looking at The Crow. What can you give me that members of the genus corvidae inspire?

I’m looking forward greatly! As always, please don’t post your submissions here, but send them to me by email.
